The Public Health Department of the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) works to prevent infectious diseases, improve environmental health and health in workplace, prevent injuries from accidents, support community development, improve life habits and prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, and support the development, adaptation and social integration of our people. Our work is carried out in the context of Iiyiyiu values: spiritual, emotional, mental and physical equilibrium.
Our Mandate
The Public Health Department was created in 2002 and is officially recognized by the Government of Quebec. Its mandate covers surveillance, promotion, prevention, protection, regulation, research and training relating to the health of the Cree (Iiyiyiu) population in the territory of Region 18 covered by the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement.
Structure
With headquarters in Mistissini, the Department is divided into five teams: Awash (children 0-9), Uschiniichisuu (youth 10-29) and Chishaayiyuu (adults 30 years and over), Specialized Services (which includes communication, surveillance, evaluation, training and research), and Administrative Services.
